Parabens have been one of the biggest complaints some have in the skincare industry in general. The studies so far are really debatable, but many like to be sure that something is absolutely safe for obvious reasons. The only studies shown with parabens have been extremely small, and so I’m not sure which way I would go. However, that being said, it is impressive when some products take the proactive step of avoiding them whether the studies are small or not. It’s a way of taking extra care to look out for you right?
They range from acne treatments to wrinkle treatments, and while they will not make acne or wrinkles worse, some would consider the speculated side effects at this time to be worse. In this particular case, I can’t say that I can blame them. But for me at least, the jury is still out to a larger degree, and I will wait until larger studies come in to really say. Anyway, below you will find a few of the common side effects and otherwise associated with parabens at this time:
- Increased risk of estrogen dependent diseases such as breast tumors
- Heightened allergic reactions
- Decreased sperm count
- Allergic skin reactions such as dermatitis and rosacea
- Increased development of skin cancer
- Fetal development problems in pregnant women
